There’s nothing like Halloween in Arizona - the fall colors, apple orchards, and community events take this seasonal celebration to a whole new level. So bring the gang and check out these fun activities and halloween events in Arizona.

  1. Visit Sweeties Candy of Arizona

No Halloween celebration is complete without a visit to Arizona’s largest candy store. Sweeties has been making locals smile for more than 60 years, selling their favorite candy by the piece, pound, or half a ton. Their Chandler store spans more than 13,000 square feet and stocks candy brands from over 190 manufacturers.

Their chocolate aisle is a must-visit for anyone who has a sweet tooth - here you’ll find both major brands and obscure chocolate makers. The Jelly Belly display is another highlight, with large bins of colorful jelly beans in every flavor imaginable. Best of all, more than half of Sweeties’ inventory costs $1 or less.

  2. Explore the Field of Screams

Enter this haunted corn maze in Glendale and get the fright of your life. Inspired by the “Children of the Corn”, a short story by Stephen King and adapted into a 1984 blockbuster film, this horror maze is decorated and staffed by professional “haunters” to scare the wits out of you.

The Field of Screams is located on scenic Tolmachoff Farms, which also has a seasonal pumpkin patch. Drop by for a good scare and pick up a Halloween pumpkin while you’re at it.

  3. Pick your costume at the Mardi Gras Costume Shop

Arizona’s favorite costume shop, Easley’s, closed down after Halloween 2018. Luckily, there are many other shops selling costumes for a night of trick-or-treating. These include Mardi Gras in Phoenix, which has been in business since 1972. They carry a selection of authentic Mardi Gras, Venetian, carnival, and masquerade masks to add a bit of mystery to your Halloween outfit.

For something more colorful and outrageous, visit The Gaslight Costume Shoppe at Tucson, which offers professional costume rentals, accessories, and theater makeup. They have racks of costumes to help you dress up as a pirate, mermaid, princess, or cowboy. You name it, they’ve got it - your imagination is the only limit.

  4. Venture into the Vulture Gold Mine

This historic gold mine in Wickenburg is purportedly haunted by several miners who were hanged for stealing gold in the late 1800s. Paranormal experts claim that spirit orbs, disembodied voices, and other supernatural occurrences haunt the mine to this day. Visitors can join ghost tours to explore the mine and learn more about these accounts.

Local historians, however, are unperturbed - it’s worth visiting Vulture Gold Mine to appreciate its role in the development of Phoenix and Arizona as a whole. Some notable historic structures in the ghost town of Vulture City include the Assay Building, Glory Hole, Henry Wickenburg’s restored cabin, and the Hanging Tree.
